Environmentalist Grinches

See. I thought they only hated America. But it turns out that the Gorinches (that's half Grinch/half Al Gore) hate Christmas too. According to Courier Mail:

SCIENTISTS have warned that Christmas lights are bad for the planet due to huge electricity waste and urged people to get energy efficient festive bulbs.

CSIRO researchers said householders should know that each bulb turned on in the name of Christmas will increase emissions of greenhouse gases.
Gee. I wonder what they think of Christmas trees.

If we just call them Eid ul-Fitr lights we'll never hear another peep from those twits.

Clearly, we all want to harm the environment and want to pay high electricity bills to do it. If they really wanted to protect the environment, they'd give us cheap, reliable options for all the 'harmful' things we do. Personally, I'd love to see Christmas lights that use fiber optics, because they are not as hot and have less risk of fire.. and they'd be more energy efficient. But I guess it's a better view from the ivory tower.

I wonder if they published this article or said this with their own lights turned off.

Then again, they always preach "do as we say, not as we do."

Oh don't you see, they're just trying to help us reduce our electricity bills! How thoughtful.

Seriously, I'd have no problem using just LED lights we didn't already have plenty of older ones around as well. They use less energy, are cooler, and last longer. Plus its cool to have solid state lightning hanging around. They cost a bit more but supposedly you get what you pay for.

Any environmentalist who complains about Christmas tree is missing plain facts: Real Christmas trees encourage planting of more trees and are biodegradable.

Maybe next Thanksgiving we'll be reminded that 'each mile to grandma's house increases greenhouse gases too' :-p

You know, that's it...I'm going to string up so many lights that they can be seen from Mars. I guess when your conclusions are based on questionable science you can make all the absurd claims you want.

Well, it is a little cold here. Time to put up more lights so we can have more global warming.

And these people wonder why I try to make my carbon footprint as big as possible ;) More lights :)

What scientists? Where? Says who?

Gorinches sit in the dark like the dwarves in C. S. Lewis' THE LAST BATTLE, refusing to step out into the sunlight and happiness.

Gorinches (nice neologism!) are against colored lights for the oldest Scrooge reason of all: colored lights are pretty and make people happy.

A happy and holy Christmas, everyone.

But I say eco-olaters should know that each email they send in the name of their theory will increase missions of greenhouse gases.

LED lights simply don't look as good as their incandescent counterparts. Any Philadelphian can attest to how Boathouse Row now looks like crud because of the LED lights. LED Christmas lights just look creepy and weird.
