Christmas Conversation with My 4 Year Old
My four year old son walked up to me yesterday while I was setting the table for dinner.
"Uhm" he asked hesitangly"Is it too late to add things to my Christmas list?"
"I think so," I said, eyeing the three feet of snow piled up outside the window.
"OK," he said resignedly and then looked out past me, deep in thought. "Dad can we run out to the store and buy a whip?"
"Why?" I asked.
"Uhm. I put a lion on my Christmas list but I forgot to put down a whip. And if the lion shows up and I don't have a whip we could all be in trouble."
"Oh," I said because I couldn't think of what else to say to his perfectly logical question.

Thank you for sharing. made my day :)
Heh. On the bright side, you now have an excuse not to get him a lion - "Sorry, they were all out of whips, so Santa decided that a lion wasn't such a great idea."
That made my day as well.
What concerns me though, is do you think your 4yr old is capable of controlling a lion with just a whip?
I would get a cage as well.
I hope PETA doesn't read this.

Wow. Keep animal control on speed dial.
That is totally awesome! Thank God for the gift of children! Stories like this always make me smile.
I bet it was really hard to not laugh during the conversation...
Brilliant! I love stories like this.
Thanks for the laugh!
Cute story!
Reminds me of the response my five year old cousin gave me when I asked her "What did you get for Christmas?" Her response "A bear. A stuffed one, not a real one. I wanted a real one but my mom wouldn't let me!"
This kid is going to have a REALLY sleepless night Christmas Eve. A lion may be coming and no whip with which to manage him. I would leave a note for Santa to put the lion in the basement if he brings one.
LOL!
Ah that's so nice and innocent. Made me smile which I needed as my friend past away yesterday at the age of just 28. Thanks for sharing and making me smile :)
Very cute - but it is pronounced "wheep"
Thank you God for the gift of innocent children to put things in perspective! Our kids are loving it too! Thanks for sharing :)
Holy cow that is FUNNY!
too cute!
Love a child's logic!!

You will need a chair to go with the whip and with the cage Joe mentioned. Do lions eat Little Friskies?
Just tell him that Santa would not leave anything that would hurt him so the lion would not be real but a stuffed one
If you could arrange for some convincing roaring Christmas morning from the general direction of the tree (or basement, or closet, or anywhere convenient), I doubt it would be soon forgotten....
Children are full of imagination and wonder, there isn't a task to big for them tackle if they really want something.
Thanks for sharing this great story, It brings back memories of my own children.
So, did he get the lion? :-)
That is adorable that he was so convinced he'd get the lion. I'm in love.
