White House and FBI Targets Pro-Lifers

Perfect. The Obama Administration, the FBI and Planned Parenthood are teaming up. Guess who they're targeting?

Documents LifeNews.com obtained today reveal the Obama administration partnered with leading pro-abortion organizations to host an FBI training seminar in August with the main focus of declaring as "violent" the free speech activities of pro-life Americans.

On August 25, 2010, the FBI and the United States Department of Justice co-sponsored a training seminar with Planned Parenthood, the National Abortion Federation and the Feminist Majority Foundation.

When information about the seminar, which took place at FBI headquarters in Portland, Oregon, reached pro-life advocates, they asked officials for permission to attend and were granted access to the seminar and the training materials.

Go Away Book! Go Away!

There have been a couple of books I've read with the kids that I've found to be completely inappropriate or just a total snore. It can be frustrating dealing with children's books. My ten year old reads everything so I have to be careful with her to at least browse everything she's going to read. But my eight year old just doesn't love reading yet so when her summer reading list came home and we dove into the books they were sooooo booooooring mainly because their attempt to be politically correct I feared that it would make her even more of a non reader.

I'd imagine every family has their horror stories. Arwen Mosher at Faith and Family Live is asking about your experiences with children's books.

A while ago I asked about children’s books you love, which led to a thread full of suggestions. It’s been very helpful to me on our library visits.

But - as I’m sure we’ve all experienced - not all literature is created equal, even literature for little people.

I always cringe when my daughter heads for the rack of made-from-TV books. You know the ones: books that consist of the storyline and pictures from an animated children’s television show. It’s like they figured that if they went to the trouble of making an episode, they might as well use it for a book too. But (shockingly) television doesn’t translate well to the written word. Why, TV execs? Why?

Fortunately, I’ve been able to (mostly) keep the TV-books out of our house. (The rare one that turns up in a bag from a used-book sale makes a quiet disappearance soon afterward.) UN-fortunately, there are also plenty of children’s classics that are, frankly, kind of a snooze.

Candidate for Stupak Seat For Death Panels

Boy, that Sarah Palin was really making up stories when she talked about "death panels." She's soooooooo stupid, isn't she?

But as long as Democrats are pushing the meme of Palin's stupidity you'd think they'd stop actually actually advocating death panels. But they clearly can't help themselves. They can't because it's the logical end of their theory of Big Brother governance. They all know it. The only thing shocking here is that a Democrat admitted it in public again.

Democrat Gary McDowell is running to replace Bart Stupak (D, MI) in Michigan's First District and while he may be hoping he might get the votes of seniors coming to the end of their time here on this mortal coil, he sure seems reticent to give them the medical care they'll need to be around much longer after the election!

At a campaign appearance, McDowell agreed with those Obamacare supporters that think giving lifesaving medical care to seniors at end of life is a "resource" that needs to be rationed.

Amazing Grace: The Flying Scotsman

I recently watched again the Oscar winning film ‘Chariots of Fire’. It is a terrific film. Once again I was moved by how the film portrays the faith of Olympian Eric Liddell (played to perfection by the late Ian Charleson). But there is more to the story than most people know.

For those not acquainted with the story or the film, a brief summary. Eric Liddell was born in China to a Scottish protestant missionary family. He was quite an athlete. An accomplished Rugby player, he attended the University of Edinburgh where he also took up and eventually dedicated himself to running. So accomplished was he as an athlete, Liddell was asked to represent the U.K. in the 1924 Paris Olympics in the 100 meter dash.

In the film, Liddell debates with his sister about whether his focus should be on running or on their missionary work. Liddell responds by saying "I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure."

Pro-Life Fiorina Outraged When Called Pro-Life

Senate candidate Carly Fiorina wants you to know she's pro-life. But she wants everyone to know that she's not like really really pro-life.

She's kinda' OK with life, not totally against it but if someone wanted to be against it she'd be cool with that too. But if you wanted to do something kinda' pro-life she might be into that too maybe if it maybe wouldn't hurt her candidacy.

Last night, Fiorina freaked out at the debate because Senator Barbara Boxer has accused her of being pro-life.

From The Politico:


But when the moderator, KPCC’s Patt Morrison, raised the lightning-rod issue of abortion rights, Fiorina accused Boxer of engaging in a "unconscionable shocking misrepresentation" of her record to divert voters’ attention.

While Fiorina considers herself "pro-life" and has the backing of the anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony Group, she said she does not support the criminalization of abortion in any instance, would not introduce legislation to ban abortion and promised not to use the issue as a litmus test in determining her support for candidates nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court.
So she's pro-life but wouldn't make it against the law, wouldn't introduce legislation to make it against the law, and wouldn't work to put judges in place who would rule in a pro-life manner.

But she considers herself pro-life so don't worry. I'm starting to think that Carly Fiorina might just be pro-Carly Fiorina.

Here's the rule. Pro-life with caveats means you're not pro-life. Got it?

This Is the End of Western Civilization


Well that's it. It's all over. I knew we were getting there but I didn't know we were there, parked and unpacked already. Men are officially complete wusses. (Is that how you spell wusses?)

We've gone from John Wayne and Gregory Peck being male role models to Michael Cera and Seth Rogen in just a few generations. Folks, that ain't improvement.

There's so much wrong with this story that I don't even know where to begin. A newspaper in Britain compiled a list of songs that make men cry. OK. What kind of man responds to such an inquiry from a stranger with a notepad. Secondly, the song that topped the chart was...I can't even write it for shame of counting myself among the same gender as these "men." They picked...I can't tell you. It's too terrible. I'll just cut and paste it in because I can't even write it.

Look I understand that the visage of increasingly skeletal Michael Stipes would frighten many people but I don't know if there's anything Michael Stipes could do to make me cry. I'd imagine it would have to involve rubber hammers, a monkey wrench, tasers, and rope though.

I personally had my tear ducts removed by a school nurse I paid under the table in the second grade. No anaesthesia. So I don't even know from this crying thing you speak of...but...if there HAD TO BE such a list there are probably a few songs that could conceivably be on the list.

They must have a better class of model in Australia than we have here in the states.

This clip is both awful and inspiring to watch. In the finale of Australia's Next Top Model they announced the WRONG winner! And it took over a minute to correct their error after much celebration had already occurred. The behavior of the models after the error was revealed is a model of gracious behavior.



This clip shows that these women have some inner beauty as well.

Wonderful. I mean terrible, but wonderful.

Congresswoman Wants to Kill Hyde Amendment...Among Other Things

Follow the logic here. A congresswoman is saying that not enough women have access to abortion due to the Hyde Amendment prohibiting funding abortions for poor women. But then she says that the government should finance abortions but adds that she doesn't believe there would be no increase in abortion. Huh?

Could anyone in their right mind actually believe that abortions are too scarce? Are abortions really that hard to get? I think fifty million babies would differ.

CNS reports:


Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) said the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal funding of abortion except in certain cases, should be repealed, and also said “there’s no evidence” that increasing access to abortion services encourages people to get abortions.

At an event on Capitol Hill sponsored by the Center for Reproductive Rights to call for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment, CNSNews.com asked Rep. Schakowsky, “So, increasing access to abortion, you think, does not encourage some people to get abortions?”

Rep. Schakowsky said, “No, there’s no evidence of that around the world, where access to abortion is more available but somehow women are more inclined to get one.”
Once again there seems to be a weird focus on ensuring that poor women get abortions. You'd almost think that Democrats thought that poor people are unfit to have children or something.

I have to wonder if Dems are going to make a push to repeal the Hyde Amendment during the lame duck session of Congress before Republicans can actually take the seats they win in the November election. Stay vigilant.

Obama Officially Jimmy Carter Now

Obama scolds Democrat voters, calling their apathy "inexcusable" and "irresponsible."

Weasel Zippers reports:

Admonishing his own party, President Barack Obama says it would be “inexcusable” and “irresponsible” for unenthusiastic Democratic voters to sit out the midterm elections, warning that the consequences could be a squandered agenda for years.

“People need to shake off this lethargy. People need to buck up,” Obama told Rolling Stone in an interview to be published Friday. The president told Democrats that making change happen is hard and “if people now want to take their ball and go home, that tells me folks weren’t serious in the first place.”
'Cause that sounds like a leader, right?

Compare that to Jimmy Carter's malaise speech where he blamed the country for not doing well enough to make him a great President. Funny how with Carter and Obama the fault is not theirs but everyone else's.

Also interesting is that three days after his speech speech, Carter asked for the resignations of all of his Cabinet officers, and ultimately accepted five of them.

Recently we've had Larry Summers, the director of the National Economic Council and the president’s chief economic policy co-ordinator, resign. Christina Romer, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, recently returned to Berkeley and Peter Orszag, the budget director, left earlier in the summer.

The only thing bad about Obama getting booted in 2012 is that we'll have to deal with former President Obama, Nobel Peace Prize Winner, on television with Nobel Peace Prize Winner Jimmy Carter criticizing the country for years to come. Ick.

U.N. To Appont Ambassador to Space Aliens

OK. This is the worst news ever. Brace yourself. The United Nation's is appointing the head of the Office for Outer Space Affairs to come up with a response should we be visited by space aliens.

Really.

The Telegraph reports:

Mazlan Othman, a Malaysian astrophysicist, is set to be tasked with co-ordinating humanity’s response if and when extraterrestrials make contact.

Aliens who landed on earth and asked: “Take me to your leader” would be directed to Mrs Othman.

The 58-year-old is expected to tell delegates that the proposal has been prompted by the recent discovery of hundreds of planets orbiting other starts, which is thought to make the discovery of extraterrestrial life more probable than ever before.

Mrs Othman is currently head of the UN’s little known Office for Outer Space Affairs (Unoosa).
This is the United Nations that can't handle a dweeb like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. But they're going to handle Jabba the Hut?

The good news is that there's been a lot of debate already. But there's already debate on how aliens should be handled.
Opinion is divided about how future extraterrestrial visitors should be greeted. Under the Outer Space Treaty on 1967, which Unoosa oversees, UN members agreed to protect Earth against contamination by alien species by “sterilising” them.

Mrs Othman is understood to support a more tolerant approach.
More tolerant? Oh great. She's already appeasing the aliens and they don't even exist yet!

Let's hope that we get some warmup runs with aliens like jar jar Binks before they're forced to deal with some real heavy duty intergalactic space villains.

This is lunacy. What's next? An ambassador to Bigfoot? Seriously. We now have people in jobs to handle problems that don't exist yet but might someday?

And what is she spending her days doing. She gets into her office, tosses her E.T. lunchbox on her desk and then...what?

She could spend an hour or two learning to play the theme to Close Encounters on the synthesizer.

Write a paper comparing and critiquing the human response to aliens in Mac and Me with how the campers treated the alien they named "Meathead" in Meatballs 2.

Read a Whitley Streiber book during her coffee break.

Figure out a way to explain to the aliens that Israel is evil.

And maybe if there's time figure out how we can point all of our nuclear weapons skyward instead of at each other.

Most Low-Down Anti-Christian Ad O' The Season

Alan Grayson, running for Congress in FL-8, may the most low down dirty skunk running for Congress this year (and that's sayin' somthing). But he is also anti-Christian too.

On the heels of what I thought would be the dirtiest ad of the year in which Grayson calls his opponent a draft dodger and states that he doesn't love our country, comes this unbelievably dirty ad.

Randall Terry Teaches How to Destroy Koran

How is this helping? I hate to see this. Randall Terry, the former head of Operation Rescue whose primary talent of late seems to be snaring headlines, has just released a video instructing people how to destroy a Koran and gets lots o’ press while doing it.

Obama Omits the Creator. Again.

Well, for all those who said it was just a slip of the tongue last time or that his speechwriters were to blame, Obama just made sure you knew that he meant it the first time. Yup. President Obama just omitted God again from the Declaration of Independence.

As Weasel Zippers said, "No denying it now."

But while I take notice of what he doesn't say, what he does say irks me a bit too. Check it out.

Just seven days after he sparked controversy by omitting the word “Creator” when he closely paraphrased the passage from the Declaration of Independence that says all men “are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights,” President Barack Obama again omitted the Creator when speaking about the “inalienable rights” that “everybody is endowed with.”

This time the president was speaking at a Sept. 22 fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City, and his reference to “inalienable rights” was not as close a paraphrasing of the Declaration as it had been the week before.

“And what was sustaining us was that sense that, that North Star, that sense that, you know what, if we stay true to our values, if we believe that all people are created equal and everybody is endowed with certain inalienable rights and we’re going to make those words live, and we’re going to give everybody opportunity, everybody a ladder into the middle class, every child able to go as far as their dreams will take them–if we stay true to that, then we’re going to be able to maintain the energy and the focus, the fight, the gumption to get stuff done,” Obama said at the DCCC/DSCC event, according to the transcript posted by the White House.
Kinda' weird for a practicing Christian like him to make such an error twice, huh? One would almost start thinking he was doing it on purpose.

Once you omit the Creator from a discussion about rights the rights are immediately quite alienable. They become merely common beliefs which can change over time.

But for Obama to say that the Declaration of Independence is there to give everyone "a ladder" into the middle class. That's a pretty fundamental misunderstanding of rights if you ask me. And from a President that's pretty scary.

Pro-Lifers Support Violence Against Women?

You'd think that progressives who say they're pro-women's rights would question themselves when their policies clearly have created a gender imbalance with baby girls being aborted at alarming rates in some countries. They're against it but they don't even know how to argue against it because they can't talk about the unborn as deserving of anything but scalpels.

In fact, the clearer it becomes to the world that liberals are leading the world to its ruination, the more outlandish their claims become.

This week, for example, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will be discussing bills dealing with International Violence Against Women.

Janice Shaw Crouse of Townhall Magazine writes:

Feminist groups are pushing action on the legislation before the November elections — for obvious reasons. Like so many feminist proposals, the rhetoric sounds great. Is there anybody, other than the jihadists, who is not opposed to violence against women? The problems with I-VAWA are hidden in the fine print under the lofty rhetoric; the agenda is predictable: anything promoting so-called “women’s rights” is a thinly-veiled push for anti-family policies, gender quotas, and, of course, abortion-on-demand, all on a global scale...

Further, the urban myths continue alongside the long-standing practice of feminists equating a lack of “reproductive services” with “domestic violence.” The I-VAWA (Section 3) acknowledges U.N. Security Council Resolution 1325 — which, as those who are knowledgeable about the U.N. recognize, is the section that is cited as mandating the protection of reproductive rights. The I-VAWA would allocate $10 million a year to the United Nations Development Fund for Women, UNIFEM (Section 201), one of the major U.N. agencies devoted to promoting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which prominently feature reproductive and gender rights. First, note that the UNIFEM definition of domestic violence includes “psychological violence perpetrated or condoned by the government of the country in which the victim is a resident” (Section 4). Second, what the American public needs to be aware of is that the U.N.’s interpretation of “psychological violence” includes “mental distress” brought on by lack of access to abortion services.
So the inclusion of money for abortion in a anti-women violence bill must mean that those who oppose funding abortion are pro-violence against women?

The sad part is that is how many pro-choicers truly view pro-lifers.

All you folks advocating for a culture of life are just simply pretending to love babies as cover for actually being pro- violence against women.

And here's the extra kicker, Dems love putting these in 1) because they can't get enough of promulgating the culture of death and 2) because they know that most Republicans will have to vote against it so the Dems can say in attacks ads that they voted against funding for abused women.

Did You Boycott Church?

Yesterday was the "Sunday Without Women?" when outraged Catholic women all across the globe were supposed to boycott Mass in order to prove that the Church needs to change its mind on celibacy or ordination of women or any other issue they can be outraged about.

It all started with Jennifer Sleeman, a Catholic convert from Ireland, urging women to send a message to the Vatican that "women are tired of being treated as second-class citizens in the Church."

Rose Marie Berger, an associate editor with Sojourners magazine in Washington DC, got all "You go girl" about it and said something like "hey, let's all do that."

Berger, cribbing some phraseology from Karl Marx, wrote:

Catholic women of the world unite. September 26 is the day to boycott Mass and pray for greater inclusion of women in the Catholic church.


Then some sympathetic organizations jumped on board:
Women's Ordination Worldwide (WOW) stands in solidarity with Catholic women in Ireland who call for a widespread boycott of Mass on Sunday, September 26, 2010.

"Women make up 60% of Mass-goers and 80% of lay ministers. If each one of us took action on one single day, there is no doubt that this would be a powerful and significant event," stated Erin Saiz Hanna, Executive Director of the Women's Ordination Conference (WOC). "The practical, financial, and political implications would be substantial to say the least," Hanna continued.
I'm not sure I understand this. Let's break a commandment in order to prove that the Church should do what we say?

Uhm, I'm not sure I see the logic. Do you?

Let's hope the same people call for "Let's all go to Confession to confess our Mortal Sin Day" next week.

Bigots Of The World, Unite!

Four Christian Missionaries, laughably arrested and charged with inciting a riot at a Dearborn Muslim festival, have been acquitted by a jury. One of the missionaries was found guilty of failure to obey a police officer's order

The missionaries videotaped the entire incident and posted it on Youtube. To charge these four with inciting a riot is like charging Rowan Williams with orthodoxy, the charge will never stick.

The four missionaries, from a group called Acts 17 Apologetics specifically proselytizes Muslims, this is the real reason they were arrested that day. To proselytize a Muslim is to suggest that the Muslim may be wrong and that is all the evidence of bigotry some people need.

Dearborn Mayor Jack O'Reilly Jr. said the missionaries were "anti-Muslim bigots pulling a publicity stunt to gain attention on YouTube in order to raise money."

Why Anglicanism Will Die....

This is all you need to know.

In an interview with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams tries to walk the middle of the road and gets run over by a bus.

It is Dr Williams' comments on gay clergy and bishops which have drawn instant attention from reporters and commentators, however.

He declared: "There’s no problem about a gay person who’s a bishop... It’s about the fact that there are traditionally, historically, standards that the clergy are expected to observe. So there’s always a question about the personal life of the clergy.”

Asked what is wrong with a gay bishop having a partner, the Archbishop replies: “I think because the scriptural and traditional approach to this doesn’t give much ground for being positive about it. The Church at the moment doesn’t quite know what to make of it...”
So he admits that the Church scripturally, historically, and traditionally does not support homosexuality and/or homosexual bishops, but he doesn't have a problem with it.

Ummm, Dr. Williams, what exactly is the role of a bishop if not to uphold what the Church teaches scripturally, historically, and traditionally?

That said, Williams manages to satisfy no one with his middle of the road answer. To traditional Christians, he freely admits that he has abdicated his role as steward of what the church teaches. To homosexual advocates, he has admitted that he does not have the courage of his own personal convictions (if you can call them that?).

As Mr. Miyagi wisely said "Walk on road, hm? Walk left side, safe. Walk right side, safe. Walk middle, sooner or later [squish]"

Rowan Williams just went 'squish.'

Let's Nationalize the Christie Plan

You know how the federal government always says that while they support Planned Parenthood with millions of bucks you shouldn't worry because none of that money goes to abortion. What a horrible joke that is. And we all know it.

New Jersey's Governor Chris Christie proved that's a lie just this week. Mind you, I still don't trust Christie's pro-life conversion but he did a great thing by pulling millions in funding from Planned Parenthood. He argued that it was for fiscal reasons but who cares why, he did it because now Planned Parenthood is shutting down clinics in New Jersey.

CBN reports:

A New Jersey Planned Parenthood office is closing its doors forever after Gov. Chris Christie cut state taxpayer funding to the abortion giant -- and the state senate failed to over-ride his decision.

The Cherry Hill, N.J. office is operated by Planned Parenthood of Southern New Jersey. It stands to lose as much as $160,000 in taxpayer funds, because of Christie's decision.

"We applaud the senators who voted 'no' to override Governor Christie's veto of S2139," Marie Tasy, head of New Jersey Right to Life, told LifeNews. "This debate was never about health care. It is about advancing a political agenda and rewarding friends and a radical special interest group with our tax dollars."

"We commend Governor Christie for his steadfast opposition to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse and for working to promote the best health care for all NJ citizens," she added.
Here's the thing. I know this is really hard to understand but giving millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood allows them to stay open and that means more abortions. Oh wait, it's actually not that hard to understand. In fact, it's pretty much common sense.

There's just no reason Planned Parenthood should be receiving millions of dollars in taxpayer money. I don't care whether we argue that it's for socially conservative reasons or fiscally conservative reasons let's follow the example of Chris Christie all around the country and defund Planned Parenthood.

Raising Awareness Is Not an End Goal

It seems that the U2 frontman Bono's charity isn't all that into actually helping people, just raising awareness that people need help.

Big Hollywood has a story that:

Bono’s anti-poverty foundation ONE is under pressure to explain its lavish salaries after it was revealed that only a small percentage of money it raises reaches the needy.

The non-profit organisation set up by the U2 frontman received almost £9.6m in donations in 2008 but handed out only £118,000 to good causes (1.2 per cent).
1.2 percent?

The explanation the "charity" gave was that while they sure don't do a lot to actually helping anyone they raise a lot of awareness that people need help.

You know, I'm getting a little tired of all this awareness raising as an end goal. We've got t.v. We've got the internet. We've got newspapers and magazines. We're aware. We're so aware that half the time all the world's troubles seem too overwhelmingly big to handle. We're so aware that groups are making things up to make us aware of like calamitous man made global warming or overpopulation.

The world cries out for people to actually do something, not just raise awareness.
I'm kinda' wondering if Bono is simply in the business of raising awareness of Bono.

Sesame Street Pulls Katy Perry

OK. The video isn't totally like porn or anything but holy cow Katy Perry, did you have to go with the revealing top to dance around with Elmo? It could be that Perry shows off her assets so often that she was worried nobody would recognize her all covered up.

Sesame Street, I think rightly, is now refusing to air the piece with Perry. We should probably just be grateful she didn't perform her hit single "I Kissed a Girl" with Elmo's bff Zooey.

In case you're not clear that Europe's growing Muslim population (paired with Christians unwillingness to reproduce) is kind of a problem for Western civilization and the Church, here's a video of how a group of Muslims reacted to the Pope's recent visit to England. (Hint: They're not happy. They get a little "Death to the Pope" on him.)

Meanwhile, we're all about the hand wringing over the the WTC Mosque and because some lone nutballs are talking about burning the Koran. Remember, we're the bad guys here. We're eeeeeeeevil. EEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeviiiiiilllll. They're the religion of peace, doncha know.

I've said this before but I really do worry about how the Vatican will fare in an increasingly Islamicized Europe. I know just by saying that I'll be labeled a racist.

Congressman Urges Indoctrination and Population Control

If I were to say to you that the government was indoctrinating our children in population control many would probably say Matt's been taking his conspiracy theory pills again. But what would you say if a Democratic congressman actually said that he'd like to see children indoctrinated in population control.

Rep. John Sarbanes (D-Md.) told CNSNews.com at a "Sustainability Education Summit" hosted by the U.S. Education Department on Tuesday that environmental education in schools can "promote the agenda" of climate change and population growth through the influence it has on children.

“Like I keep saying over and over again, if you get young people invested in those ideas early on, that will result in those kinds of positive policy developments," Sarbanes told CNSNews.com. "So, whether it’s climate change, whether it’s population growth, whether it’s all these factors that impact the health of our world, raising that awareness early among young people is only going to promote the agenda.”

And he's not the only one advocating a return to the good ol' days when procreation was a top down decision and not left up entirely to the little people who were liable to pop out two, three, four, five or six kids or more. They can't just let the world go all Duggar on them, right?

Naomi Rose Would Be Four

I've spoken to Patrick Coffin on his radio show and have exchanged emails. I'm used to funny Patrick Coffin, even smart Patrick Coffin (don't tell him I said smart). But nothing prepared me for the story Patrick shared about his daughter Naomi Rose.

He writes on the occasion of his daughter's fourth birthday:

Our daughter Naomi Rose would have turned four today. Her true Father had a much better plan, though, and so we turn to St. Naomi and ask for her intercessory firepower, for her sisters and her mommy and daddy who wait in joyful hope here below.

Baby Abandoned in Alley Saved

I don't know whether to call this a horrible or wonderful story. I'll focus on the positive and say it's wonderful because in the end a few people reacted with humanity towards a tiny baby who'd been abandoned and tossed in the trash. But like I said, we're not focusing on the bad part today. Let's just be happy that there was a happy ending.

Thanks to the Boston Herald for bringing this story to light:

The abandoned baby boy of a “scared” young mother was shivering in a trash-strewn alley when, in a miraculous stroke of luck, neighbors heard his desperate cries, one of his East Boston rescuers recounted yesterday.

Deysi Vargas said she was preparing for bed when her brother and her husband heard the baby’s cries. The three followed the tiny wails to the alley below, where they spotted the naked infant lying alone amid the trash on Monday, garbage night.

The horrified good Samaritans sprang into action: Vargas’ husband ran to alert firefighters at a nearby station and she raced inside to get a blanket that she tossed into the alley, which runs between Saratoga Street triple-deckers.

Then, because there was no way into the alley from the street, her brother climbed out of her first-floor apartment window and lowered himself down. He stayed there with the child until firefighters were able to tear down the barrier.

When he was carried out of the alley at about 10 p.m., Vargas said, the baby appeared unharmed.

“He looked fine,” she said. “He was shivering. . . . I started crying when I saw him, ’cause he’s just a baby.”
I love that line because it says it all. She started crying when she saw him "'cause he's just a baby." To me, that seems like a proper response to a child in need, a child in mortal danger.

Believe it or not I find myself feeling sad for the person who abandoned the baby because to do something like that you have to be so far gone, so dark, so hard to reach.

There are those who crawl out of windows to help babies. There are those who cry at the sight of babies in trouble. And there are people who leave babies in trash heaps in alleyways. Those who crawl out of windows deserve our praise. Those who don't need our prayers.

Absorbing A Terrorist Attack

You are going to hear a lot of spin about this comment of the President to Bob Woodward.

"We can absorb a terrorist attack. We'll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever . . . we absorbed it and we are stronger."

The White House will try to tell you that this comment is about the strength of the American people, about our resiliency. But...

Word choices matter. Hey, we all know that another attack is a possibility, maybe even a probability. We know this. I don't blame the President for being candid about this, even to try and prepare us for it. But...

Absorb. Think about that word. I think we can survive another terrorist attack. I think we can overcome another terrorist attack. We can endure another terrorist attack. I believe we will be undaunted even in the face of another terrorist attack. But absorb?

For me, absorb means that you take a blow without caring much about it. You take a blow and move on. You take a blow and you do not retaliate. You absorb it.

The White House will spend the next few days trying to convince us otherwise, but this is what absorb means to me. If and when we are hit again, Obama will do nothing. He will absorb it and move on. He wants us to do the same.

The point? Our reaction to 9/11 made things worse. President Obama will rise above. Even in the face of attack, President Obama will remember who the true enemy is. Us.

Silliest Explanations for Parting the Red Sea

OK. You're on the run with a few hundred thousand of your best friends from the most powerful and dangerous army known to man. The well armed bad guys are right behind you and you come to the edge of the sea. Uh-oh.

And I really mean uh-oh because none of you ever took swimming lessons because you probably thought to yourself "What are the chances of being chased by the world's most lethal army so that my only escape is the sea?" With logic like that you can't really be faulted for not learning to swim.

So things aren't looking good. Bad army. Big Sea. You don't swim. But all of a sudden the sea parts and allows you and your buddies to run through to safety. Now about then you're thinking, "What are the chances of something like that happening? It's gotta' be ten to one. At least."

But then as you get across the parted sea the bad guys, after pausing for a moment and considering, "Hey maybe we don't want to chase these guys that bad" they resume the chase and dash into the parted sea only to be swept away by the sea which collapses on them.

When that sea overcomes your enemies you're not calculating the odds anymore, you're thanking God. Now what would you say if one of your companions who just dashed across the sea turned to you and said that the thinks the sea parted because the wind and there was a perfectly logical explanation for all of it.

What would you say to that companion?

Well yesterday, some scientific study declared that Moses had nothing to do with the parting of the sea. It was actually just the wind.

Oh. Well, problem solved. So say we all. Whew. There was almost a mystery there. Thank goodness science jumped in.

But all I'll say is that has got to be the luckiest wind...evah.

Reuters reports:

Moses might not have parted the Red Sea, but a strong east wind that blew through the night could have pushed the waters back in the way described in biblical writings and the Koran, U.S. researchers reported on Tuesday.

Computer simulations, part of a larger study on how winds affect water, show wind could push water back at a point where a river bent to merge with a coastal lagoon, the team at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the University of Colorado at Boulder said.

"The simulations match fairly closely with the account in Exodus," Carl Drews of NCAR, who led the study, said in a statement.

"The parting of the waters can be understood through fluid dynamics. The wind moves the water in a way that's in accordance with physical laws, creating a safe passage with water on two sides and then abruptly allowing the water to rush back in."
Now mind you, this of course comes on the heels of a scientific study a few years ago which stated that the parting of the Red Sea was clearly a consequence of a volcano eruption that caused a tsunami which caused the sea to part. They even made a documentary out of that one so you know it's a big deal.

Oh, there's also the theory that it wasn't the Red Sea at all but a nearby kiddie pool that was mistaken for the Red Sea. Seriously.

I'm not saying that God doesn't necessarily use the wind or a volcano but why study something like this and chat it up to the media like it's a big deal. It's just another attempt to crowd out God with the phony facade of science.

I think you can believe the volcano/tsunami theory or the wind one and that's all perfectly acceptable. You can believe that these things occurred right at that exact moment when they were needed and are never seen again. It's OK to believe in improbabilities and statistical anomalies, I guess. Just don't call them miracles.

Oh No. Not Paul Ryan Too?

John Hawkins is a little fed up (as am I) of all this "truce" talk on social issues. I guess we're expected to let our Republican leaders deal with really important things like the economy and jobs. Hooey, says I.

John Hawkins says it a lot better though:

First it was Mitch Daniels who was out in public saying we need a "truce" on moral issues. This was an extraordinarily dumb thing for a man who wants to be President to say because many people, myself included, stuck him in the "I don't know whom I'm supporting in 2012, but it won't be him" pile the moment he said it.

Well, now Paul Ryan, whom I have great admiration for, is out there saying the same thing,

40% of Docs: Euthanasia OK If You're Bored

This one will kill ya'. No literally. I mean it.

A Newsletter for doctors in Australia reports:

More than four in 10 doctors in Australia believe people aged over 70 who are healthy but ‘tired of life’ should have access to euthanasia, a survey of 500 doctors by the pro-euthanasia group Exit International says. However, 40% do not support the move says the group's director, Philip Nitschke.
OK. Maybe I'm crazy but who cares what doctors think about healthy people. We're talking about people who are having a bad day and doctors say they can be euthanized? What should doctors have to say about healthy people? Nothing. Shut up. Tell us to eat more fiber and shut up.

Have the roles of doctors changed so drastically that they've truly become death dealers. Deities in white coats? Are they so filled with their own importance that they'll actually consider taking on responsibility to euthanize the bored.

And once the right to die is enshrined folks, you'll have doctors being forced to comply.

What started out years ago as an argument about the medical community keeping someone alive against their will when their bodies had failed them has now devolved into a conversation about whether doctors can kill bored people.

Folks, once life ceases to be seen as a gift from God it loses its inherent value. Much like rights, once they're not endowed to us by our Creator, they become something that can be given and taken away.

And don't tell me that there will be safeguards. Do you mean safeguards like Planned Parenthood consulting on abortion alternatives? Planned Parenthood performs 134 abortions for every one adoption.

Euthanasia of the bored, I'm sure will be legalized everywhere soon enough. (Yeah, I'm having a pessimistic day) Clinics will have some kind of psychologist/psychiatrist on staff to ensure that the person is of sound mind (which they'll always be found to be in possession of) so that the clinic can avoid lawsuits. And they'll charge you a few bucks to hook you up to the Willy Loman machine. And bye bye.

The only good news here is that no CMR readers will ever be bored. Because we rock. View us as your anti-euthanasia medicine.

As you have probably heard, Christine O'Donnell won the Republican primary in Delaware for the Senate seat. The story for the first few days after her victory was about how establishment Republicans have it out for her (they do).

But now professional leftist loudmouth Bill Maher has tried to undercut and embarrass the candidate by releasing a video of her back in the 90's talking about some tenuous connection she had with witchcraft in high school. High school.

Now of course, such things are never to be dabbled in, no matter what your age. But Maher is not concerned for her soul; he does not believe she has a soul. Rather, Maher seeks to embarrass her and maybe disqualify her in the eyes of voters--in particular...

It's Official. Harry Reid is Creepy

It's not as if Harry Reid's zombie-like visage wasn't creepy enough. Now he's adding horndog status to his repertoire? This is kinda' icky. 70 year old Harry Reid is now assessing the "hotness" of Senate members. The Politico reports that Harry Red has officially lost it. Just last week he referred to the Delaware Senate Democratic nominee as "my pet" and now he referred to another Senator as the "hottest member."

This kind of thing can't help, especially in his race against a woman. I think he just gave Sharon Angle a pretty decent ad:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had an unusual form of praise for New York's junior senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, this morning at the fundraiser Mayor Bloomberg hosted for him at his townhouse - referring to her as "the hottest member" as she sat just a few feet away, according to three sources.

The comment prompted Gillibrand to turn red, according to the sources, and created a bit of stir among the small crowd there.

"It was pretty shocking when he said it," said one source familiar with the remark and the reaction.

A Reid spokesman confirmed it happened, but also noted that the Democratic Majority Leader also praised Gillibrand for her work...

Then he turned his attention to Gillibrand, saying something about how "many senators are known for many things," according to a source. He added, "We in the Senate refer to Sen. Gillibrand as the hottest member."
So, if the media were anywhere near fair and objective they'd ask Reid who he meant by "We."

Fact: Previous holders of the "Hottest Senator" title were Libby Dole, Hillary Clinton, and John Edwards.

Some Fights Are Worth Having

Honest to goodness I don't even know what a Christian flag is. I really don't. But a town had what they call a "Christian flag" flying over a memorial to fallen soldiers. Well, the town received ONE complaint about the separation of church and state in which the complainer threatened to sue.

So what did the town do? They removed the flag, of course. These kinds of bullying tactics happen all across the country all the time. And they'll continue as long as they work.

The town's elected officials said they simply couldn't afford a lawsuit. But, as one resident, in the news piece said, "Even if you know you're gonna' lose a fight, make a stand. It's the fight that counts. It's standing up for something."

While I understand not wanting to spend heaps of money on lawyers, we should remember that some fights are too costly not to have.

Dems To Lift Ban On Overseas Abortions

With perhaps just months left in power, the Democrat party aims to do something important before it is too late. Kill more babies.

[Washington Times] Senate Democrats are angling to end the military's decades-old ban on allowing abortions in overseas military hospitals, thus thrusting the culture wars back onto the front burner after months of being drowned out by the nation's economic woes.

Sen. Roland W. Burris ushered the proposal through the Senate Armed Services Committee in May, tacking it onto the Defense Authorization Act, which the Senate is slated to consider Tuesday.
I wish I could say this is unbelievable, but it is not. Abortion fuels the engine of the party of death.

While the proposal would require women to pay for their abortions, it would fund all the equipment and personnel necessary to perform the abortions. Senator James Inhofe said...
"they are going to turn our military hospitals into abortion clinics" and called on the crowd to rally against lawmakers interested in moving the proposal forward.

"Make sure they understand that you are watching. Because if they don't think you're watching, it's going to sail through," Mr. Inhofe said, alluding to Tuesday's scheduled vote. "You can stop it ... . If you do this, you will be doing the Lord's work, and he will richly bless you for it," he said on Friday.
This is why I can never vote for a Democrat.

Pro-Life Victory at Infamous Abortion Clinic

From the grotesque and offensive window displays including rubber chickens hanging from a crucifix, a nun in a coffin, and a Jesus statue making an offensive gesture, to the blasting radio attempting to drown out pro-lifers, to the clinic’s owner brandishing a chainsaw the abortion clinic in Rockford Illinois is rightly one of the most infamous clinics in the country.

Now, in what has to be one of the clearest “the world is upside down” stories, police in Rockford Illinois threatened to arrest the drivers of an ultrasound truck outside of an abortion clinic for offering free ultrasounds.

This was especially surprising (if anything can be surprising in Rockford at this point) because Kevin Rilott of the Rockford Pro-Life Initiative, said that pro-lifers had been working for months with police to bring the ultrasound truck to Rockford. “We spent a month dotting our I’s and crossing our t’s,” he said.

Devout Christian Prez Redacts God

'Cause devout Christians who pray every day do these kind of things.

On September 15, 2010, Obama’s addressed the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. In his Obama quoted from the preamble to the Declaration of Independence. Except is wasn't an exact quote.

“So let me close by saying this. Long before America was even an idea, this land of plenty was home to many peoples. To British and French, to Dutch and Spanish, to Mexican — (applause) — to countless Indian tribes. We all shared the same land. We didn’t always get along. But over the centuries, what eventually bound us together — what made us all Americans — was not a matter of blood, it wasn’t a matter of birth. Of course, Mr. Thin-Skinned will complain that Rush Limbaugh is somehow responsible for Americans questioning his religious sensibilities.

You can redact the Creator all you want Mr. President, the rest of us still know from whence come these inalienable rights.

Former Hitler Youth Targeted?

Five working class men from third world countries have been dragged off the streets of England which they'd been hired to clean and thrown into holding cells on suspicion of allegedly plotting to harm a former member of the infamous Hitler Youth organization.

Pope Benedict XVI, a former Hitler Youth, is the leader of an organization which is one of the only ones that legally continue to harshly discriminate against women. Benedict, who is not expected to draw very large crowds, may allegedly have been the target of these five men of unknown background or religious affiliation.

Pope Benedict, who mysteriously changed his name sometime in the last decade from Josef Ratzinger, has angered many groups with his pronouncements against the peaceful religion of Islam as well as his inflammatory statements against women. Pope Benedict XVI (aka Ratzinger) is most well known for his leadership of a group formerly known as "The Inquisition" which is believed to be responsible for the deaths of thousands if not millions of Europeans some years ago. Benedict is also regarded suspiciously for his infamous coverup of the Roman Catholic Church's sex abuse scandal which had many in Europe including such luminaries as Christopher Hitchens pleading for his arrest before more children could be hurt.

Thousands of protests were expected to shout down the Pontiff on his visit to Britain but reportedly less than a hundred protestors showed up causing some to believe that the protestors feared retaliation from those who support the Pope or perhaps even Benedict himself,a former Hitler Youth.

The five working class immigrants arrested earlier today may be victims of anti-immigrant fervor in England. In fact, anti-immigrant fervor escalated to such a fever pitch that youths were forced to protest in the streets of France recently.

Note: In case you think this satire is over the top just know that there have been 117 references to Hitler Youth in news stories about the Pope recently. There have been only 43 references to "Muslim terrorist" in stories referring to Pope Benedict.

Police Arrest 5 For Threat To Pope

Breaking.

Police arrested five men early this morning in a dawn raid after receiving information they were plotting to harm the Pope.

The suspects were arrested by Scotland Yard at 5.45am at business premises in central London and are now being questioned by counter-terror detectives.

Searches are under way at various premises across the capital but Benedict XVI's schedule in the city is currently continuing as planned.

His security was reviewed following the arrests but so far it has not been altered and he went ahead with a service and appearance in Twickenham, west London, this morning.
According to the BBC "The five men are 26, 27, 36, 40 and 50 years old. They were arrested in an armed operation at business premises where searches are continuing..."

Update 9:58 a.m.: Algerians, huh? The Telegraph is reporting it's five "Muslim terrorists." What a shock. I'm just surprised they're not calling them five "youths."

And Sky News is reporting they're from Algeria and were hired to clean the street near where the Pope was scheduled to be.
Sky News crime correspondent Martin Brunt said he understood the men were Algerian nationals employed by the agency to work for Westminster City Council.

He said they were due to clean streets around the House of Commons, where the Pope is due to speak, prompting police to launch the operation to arrest them.


Update 10:12 a.m.: Just two months ago I wrote an awesomely awesome post asking "Is the Pope in Danger." There seems to be good reason to say "Yes Matt he is." If you'll recall an influential Islamic publication called the Pope "evil" and urged Muslims to let their feelings for the Pope be shown. And we all know how radical Muslims let their feelings known. In short, they don't journal about their feelings. They seem to blow things up and kill people.

I’ve been saying recently that Pope Benedict XVI is heading into enemy territory in “Post-Christian” England. Sadly, I may be more right than I imagined.

A member of British Parliament says he fears violence at an open air mass with Pope Benedict XVI after an Islamic publication called Muslims to attend the Mass to convert Catholics and “tell the Pope in no uncertain terms what Muslims think of his evil slanders against the last Prophet of God and his message.”

I think it’s the “in no uncertain terms” that’s making some a little nervous. Oh, the same publication also called the Pope “evil.”

You Want Pepperoni With That HIV Test?

Well this is different. A crisis pregnancy center is offering coupons for a free pizza with a visit to a crisis pregnancy center. But as odd as it is, maybe it'll save a life because that's what CPC's do. They save lives. If pizza helps, so be it.


The coupon as you can see is for HIV tests, STD tests, and Pap Smears. You'd think that people who claimed they care about women would simply appreciate that. But no. It's a CPC so therefore everything they do is evil.

You've got to check out the outrage from pro-aborts.

A crisis pregnancy center in Minnesota tempts women with a free pizza. (Hopefully they will also provide a free soda to wash down their propaganda and pseudo science.)

And that's from the people who say they care about women. I guess they'd rather women didn't get pap smears, HIV tests, or STD tests as long as people who are pro-life are offering them.

Besides, it's better than the coupons Planned Parenthood offers.

CNN Slams Pope on Eve of UK Visit

CMR friend Matthew Balan watches CNN just so he can uncover these priceless anti-Catholic gems for us.

I love when CNN talks Catholicism and all things Pope because they always embarrass themselves. Here's Balan's story:

Predictably, Thursday's American Morning on CNN marked the Pope Benedict XVI's first day in the UK with a report on dissenting Catholic women who claimed they are ordained priests, contrary to the teachings of the Church. Correspondent Carol Costello took a misinterpretation of a recent Church document on ordination as fact, and ran only one sound bite from a Vatican official.

Substitute anchor Drew Griffin introduced Costello's report 24 minutes into the 6 am Eastern hour with the misinterpretation of the Catholic document, forwarded by the mainstream media outlets such as Time magazine, that it condemns the simulated ordination of women as "a crime similar to pedophilia." However, a July 16 Reuters story quoted Monsignor Charles Scicluna's clarification: "Scicluna, an official in the Vatican's doctrinal department, said there was no attempt to make women's ordination and pedophilia comparable crimes under canon...law....While sexual abuse was a 'crime against morality,' the attempt to ordain a woman was a 'crime against a sacrament.'"

The CNN correspondent began by highlighting the apparent negative response the Pope is receiving in the UK due to his visit: "You heard Kiran mention that Pope Benedict is now in Britain. He's there to appeal to the millions of Catholics in that country. But his visit is not without controversy. Many tickets remain unsold, which suggest many of Britain's Catholics are indifferent to his presence."

Shock: O'Donnell Says Masturbation and Abortion are Sins

This has to be one of the most unintentionally funny pieces ever written by a news organization. If you want to know why the mainstream media is dying, check this out.

CBS News certainly believes they have the goods on conservative Christine O'Donnell. I'm sure to them the news that Christine O'Donnell is pro-life and believes masturbation is a sin will paint her as an outlier and a crazed extremist.

And who does CBS have as their voice of reason to counter the crazed Puritan O'DOnnell in the piece, former Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders who was so wacky in saying that children should be taught to masturbate that even Bill Clinton had to fire her.

Come on, it's pretty difficult to get fired by Bill Clinton for talking dirty, isn't it?

The craziest part is that CBS thinks that someone saying masturbation and lust are sins is worthy of a news story. (Note: Don't shake hands with CBS news employees)

Here's one of the crazier excerpts from this wacko story:

Tea Party-backed candidate Christine O'Donnell, who pulled off a stunning win for Delaware's Republican Senate nomination on Tuesday, has come under fire from the left for her views on masturbation, abortion, and abstinence.

O'Donnell first offered her views on masturbation in an MTV documentary called "Sex In The 90's" when she said "the Bible says that lust in your heart is committing adultery" and that "You can't masturbate without lust."

Therefore, she concluded, masturbation is wrong.

O'Donnell believes in a fundamentalist version of sexual "purity" that emphasizes thoughts and feelings as well as deeds. It's a view that resonates with many Americans.
What the heck do they mean by a "fundamentalist" version of sexual purity? "Fundamentalist" to some in the media means that the person adheres to some rules in their religion but that's not what the word means. In shorthand, it's come to mean a religious view the media doesn't approve of.

And why do they put the word "purity" in quotes in their story? I honestly have no idea why they put that word in quotes unless they mean the same thing I do when I write CBS "News" in quotes.

If CBS "News" thinks O'Donnell's "fundamentalist" position on "purity" is some crazy position, I wonder what they'd say to Jimmy Carter who said:
" I try not to commit a deliberate sin. I recognize that I'm going to do it anyhow, because I'm human and I'm tempted. And Christ set some almost impossible standards for us. Christ said, 'I tell you that anyone who looks on a woman with lust has in his heart already committed adultery.'

"I've looked on a lot of women with lust. I've committed adultery in my heart many times. This is something that God recognizes I will do--and I have done it--and God forgives me for it."
Is Jimmy Carter some "fundamentalist" obsessed with "purity," according to CBS "News?" No. They love their Jimmah.

Elders: Rape is a despicable crime. Just as despicable is the idea that women who get pregnant should not have absolute control over their own bodies.
I'm sorry, did I miss the part where O'Donnell talked about rape. I'm offering an award to anyone who can have a conversation with a liberal about abortion and not have the word "rape" come up within thirty seconds. Bet you can't. It's a reflex.
CBSnews.com: Christine O'Donnell said, the "Bible says that lust in your heart is committing adultery. You can't masturbate without lust."

Elders: I think she would have a hard time finding support for her views in the Bible. I am a Methodist, a Christian. As a physician, we are sexual beings from birth until death, and the silence [around sexuality], the judging of others, is just wrong.
Elders obviously isn't as familiar wtih the Bible as say...Jimmy Carter. But all liberals know and cherish the part of the Bible that says you shouldn't judge others. That's their favorite part of the Bible. You can't have a conversation about religion with a liberal about religion without it coming up.

But regardless of that, here's the real difference. Christine O'Donnell is talking about purity and sin. Oh wait, I meant "purity" and sin. But nowhere is O'Donnell discussing implementing her view on lust and masturbation into law or even government practice.

On the other hand, Jocelyn Elders wanted public schools to teach masturbation to children. (You know, it seems all those CBS "News" employees figured out about masturbation without being taught by the Surgeon General.)

But that's the way it goes with the ordinary ministers of the media, conservatives are scorned for having personal standards while liberals are heralded for having no standards and forcing their views on others.

Makes sense, right?

The Rise Of The True Believer

What is one to make of all the hubbub this Republican primary season? Most of the talk has centered around the tea party, Sarah Palin, Republicans in name only (RINOs), and the reaction of the Republican establishment. Well, there is much to talk about.

The Republican establishment has clearly been shocked by the rapid ascension and influence of the tea-party and more general tea-party sentiment during the primary season. And rank and file conservatives new to the political process have been shocked at the unfriendly welcome they have received in Republican circles.

For a long time the mantra has been that for the Republican party to succeed, the party needs to engage and motivate the base. You need to get them involved. Or so they said.

As it turns out, the Republicans wanted the base to get involved--just not so much. What they really wanted is for real conservatives to turn out to vote but certainly not run. Newly involved fiscal conservatives are finding out that the Republican party wants their votes, just not them.

Pregnant Nun Ad is Back for the Pope's Visit

Remember that story about the ice cream company with the advertisement that showed a priest and a nun looking as though they were about to kiss. That ad was banned. Now the same company have an ad showing a pregnant nun eating ice cream? The text under the picture reads "Immaculately conceived" and "Ice cream is our religion".

It too was pulled after some government bureaucracy in the UK said it was over the line and banned it.

Well...the only ice cream guys wackier than Ben and Jerry are back. The clearly anti-Catholic company is now planning (despite the government ban) to show their latest advertisement along Pope Benedict's route in England.

Belfast Telegraph reports:

A spokeswoman for Antonio Federici said the company intended to defy the ban by publishing another advert portraying "a continuation of the theme".

She said: "We intend to defy the ASA's ban and will publish another advert from the series before the Pope's visit later this week.

"We are in the process of securing a series of billboards close to and along the planned route of the Pope's cavalcade around Westminster Cathedral."...

Defending the banned ad, Antonio Federici said the idea of "conception" represented the development of their ice cream, and their use of religious imagery stemmed from their strong feelings towards their product.

The company said it also wished to "comment on and question, using satire and gentle humour, the relevance and hypocrisy of religion and the attitudes of the church to social issues".
Come on. Give me a break. The "conception" word represented the development of the ice cream? Really? If you're going to be in our face with your anti-Catholic ads please just jump ugly on us all the way. Don't pretend. Don't lie. We don't care about your stupid ice cream. Or your ads.

But if the UK is so far gone that demonizing the Catholic Church will help them sell ice cream that says more about the UK than it does about ice cream or the Church.

Exit thought: So far have so many nuns fallen that I think many Catholics would just be pleased that the nun decided to keep the baby.

AP Notices Traditional Convents Booming

The Associated Press has a piece detailing how some traditional convents are seeing a boom in the number of young people interested in joining.

I love seeing this information get out there because it's so countercultural and counter to the prevailing wisdom that the Church needs to modernize in order to attract young people.

A handful of Roman Catholic convents are contradicting the decades-long slide in the number of women choosing to devote their lives to the sisterhood. And at least two of them are doing it by sticking to tradition, including the wearing of habits.

The number of nuns in the U.S. has dropped dramatically over the last several decades as more women in religious life approach retirement and are not replaced with younger sisters.

But the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia in Nashville have remained an exception for years. The order has 27 postulants entering the convent this fall, likely the largest group of new nuns in training in the U.S., according to religious scholars.

Sisters at St. Cecilia's and other thriving U.S. orders typically are younger, which makes them closer in age to potential newcomers. These orders also emphasize traditional practices, like wearing long, flowing black-and-white habits, and educating students.

After joining the convent, nuns are limited to a great degree in their contact with the outside world. They can't always use cell phones, are only allowed to visit family certain times of the year and must share the use of items like cars with other sisters in the convent.

"Initially when you enter you think you're giving up so many treats: going out to Starbucks whenever you want in your car or going out to eat," said Sister Scholastica Niemann, 31, who just entered her third year at St. Cecilia's. She'll take her final vows in five years.

"The reality is, through God's generosity and generosity of people, you have more than you could ever want," she said. "You don't have to own things to use them. You realize material possessions sometimes, because of our human nature, they can possess us."

Women entered religious life in large numbers in the 1950s and '60s, but that changed dramatically in the following decades as more career choices became available. In 1965, there were 179,954 religious sisters in the U.S. while today that number is around 57,544, according to the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate at Georgetown University.

More than nine in 10 women religious, who have taken final vows, were 60 or over in 2009. At St. Cecilia's the median age for the 272 sisters in the order is 36; the youngest sister is 18, the oldest 101.

Potential postulants see "young vibrant women, obviously happy with what they're doing" at St. Cecilia's and other growing orders, said Mary Gautier, senior research associate at CARA.

The Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, in Ann Arbor, Mich., has 22 postulants entering this fall, many of them right out of college.

Like St. Cecilia's, sisters at Mary, Mother of the Eucharist wear habits. And the average age of the sisters in the Michigan-based order is close to 28.

I Hate Republicans--A Disgusting FIt of Pique

This is a disgusting fit of pique by the same crowd that handed super majorities to the Democrats in the first place.

Foxnews is reporting that the NRSC is refusing to back Christine O'Donnell in the general election even though she is the clear choice of Delaware Republicans.

Party fractures on full display, Republican aides told Fox News Tuesday that O'Donnell would not be getting national fundraising support. State party leaders had warned that O'Donnell cannot compete against Democrat Chris Coons and vigorously backed Castle, a nine-term congressman and former governor.
This, more than a reflection on the O'Donnell campaign, shows the very real disdain that establishment Republicans have for us unwashed--tea-partiers and conservatives. I was ambivalent about the O'Donnell campaign before, now I want her to win in the worst way.

The establishment Republican party, maybe even more than the Democrat party, is one of the main obstacles to real reform in Washington. The American people are demanding reform but the establishment doesn't care. They want to shut out real conservatives where they can and co-opt them where they succeed.

Many people think that 2010 is another 1994. I hope not. I don't want another Republican takeover until conservatives have successfully taken over the Republican party. This is the message that the rank and file sent in Delaware tonight, this is why they sent the progressive RINO Castle packing. But they still don't get the message.

I don't know if O'Donnell is a good candidate or not. But at this point, I don't care. I want her to win. Scratch that--I want the Republican establishment to lose.

I am tired of Republican lip service and betrayals. I want a purge. I want a witch-hunt. I want them all gone. Every last one of them. I want litmus tests. I want lots of litmus tests. I want to fold the big tent. I want to burn the big tent. I want conservatives darn it!!

I Don't Care If Kevin Bacon Disagrees With Me

Because Americans don't know what to think until the guy who starred in "Footloose" tells them what to think, the Human Rights Campaign, a gay rights organization, is sponsoring ads in New York to urge people to support gay marriage.

This one has Julianne Moore saying something like real New Yorkers support gay marriage.



Future ads will feature Kevin Bacon, Whoopi Goldberg, Fran Drescher, Kyra Sedgwick, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the Rev. Al Sharpton.

Sharpton? Whoopi? The Nanny? Seriously? Wouldn't they be better off getting someone who has even an ounce of credibility with non-liberals who might be on the fence about gay marriage? But I think all they're really doing is trying to tell people that all the cool people are cool with gay marriage so you wanna' be cool too, doncha' cool guy?

It's laughable. Stupid. And because it's New York, it'll probably work.

Justice Breyer: Koran Burning Illegal?

This one worries the heck out of me. A Supreme Court Justice told a reporter that Americans may not be free to burn the Koran, likening it to shouting "fire" in a crowded movie theater.

As Zip writes:

So burning the American flag is considered protected free speech but burning the Koran is not? In other words, hyper-violence trumps freedom of speech…
So you have freedom of speech...unless some religious sect says they're get all violent and crazy if you say something bad about them? Lunacy.

Weasel Zippers has the report from George Stephonopolis (I know it's spelled wrong but I really don't care) writes:
But Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer told me on “GMA” that he’s not prepared to conclude that — in the internet age — the First Amendment condones Koran burning.

“Holmes said it doesn’t mean you can shout ‘fire’ in a crowded theater,” Breyer told me. “Well, what is it? Why? Because people will be trampled to death. And what is the crowded theater today? What is the being trampled to death?”
So while you thought the internet was a great advancement for speech in that it opened up millions of lines of communication, Justice Breyer sees that as dangerous. Liberals are all for free speech just not the kind that they don't like.

But in reality this has nothing to do with the internet. That's just the excuse. This is all about speech that Justice Breyer doesn't like possibly being made illegal if he can get four of the other black robed oligarchs to agree. (A feat I don't think he'll have any trouble with sadly.)

If I say anything more about this right now it'll just come out like "Arrrghghghghgghghghgh" which is the sound I make when I'm pulling my hair out.
