These days, people say "Season's Greetings," which, when you think about it, means nothing. It's like walking up to somebody and saying "Appropriate Remark" in a loud, cheerful voice.

"Mother/Father" Now "Parent 1/2" on Passports

Madness. Political correctness in its most vile form. By attempting to be inclusive with the term "family" they've misshapen it and essentially made it meaningless.

Fox News reports:

The words “mother” and “father” will be removed from U.S. passport applications and replaced with gender neutral terminology, the State Department says.

“The words in the old form were ‘mother’ and ‘father,’” said Brenda Sprague, deputy assistant Secretary of State for Passport Services. "They are now ‘parent one’ and ‘parent two.’"

A statement on the State Department website noted: “These improvements are being made to provide a gender neutral description of a child’s parents and in recognition of different types of families.”
Why not parent 1-10? Seriously why not? Is it now offensive to to refer to mommies and daddies?

This is the kind of thing that bureaucrats do with absolutely zero accountability.

Disastrous consequences, zero accountability. Sounds like a good motto for the federal government.

Yet another leftist attack on the traditional family. Marxism cannot fester in a society with strong families, children from loving 2 parent homes are not easily indoctrinated into leftist ideology.

This brings to mind Dr. Seuss' characters "Thing 1" & "Thing 2." Frankly, that's how ludicrous and surreal things seem anymore - as if our world is being twisted into some sort of garish Seussian nightmare (no disrespect to the fine children's books, mind you). Perhaps, on those applications, we can change the headings for "children" to "Thing 1 & Thing 2" in response - just to make it fair.

20 years from now....
"Parent 1 and Parent 2 have been removed from passports since the state raises all children, after the landmark Winer versus Sane decision, struck down all rights for parents to home-school or interfere in any way with the education or disciplining of children for the common good. It was natural and merciful for the state to step in to prevent a whole generation of children from being abandoned."

How about all who apply or renew a passport from now on, mark in CAPITALS Mother and Father over the 1 and 2 thing? If millions do it, they might get a message.

Ugh, Who decides which parent is first or second? It's easy to tell a mother and father apart- one is female and one is male. I can see the fights now between same sex couple fighting over who gets to be Parent number 1.

Why stop there? Aren't they going to leave room on the form for "surrogate," "egg donor," "sperm donor," and even "participating test tube or petri dish"? Some people are going to feel very left out!

Crazy.

I keep hearing: "There's no reason to oppose same-sex marriage because it wont have the slightest effect on heterosexual couples. They can go on like before." Yeah, right! All of a sudden a woman/man cannot be called a mother/father anymore. And that's probably just the beginning...

You can bet that from now on the woman will be "Parent 1". We must obliterate all signs of patriarchy.

Only two parents? Even without getting into homosexual relationships, I can see a problem with this. Child of divorced parents who have joint custody, both parents remarry. Don't we need at least Parents 1-4?

What about cases of, how shall we say, questionable paternity? Maybe the feds can enlist Maury Povich to administer paternity tests to decide which man gets his name on the child's passport. "You ARE the father!"

I agree with the statements here about which parent is considered number 1. This demarkation has more of a superior/inferior connotation than mother/father.

That being said, why can't there be extra blanks for mother 1/ mother 2, father 1/ father 2. Then "everyone is happy." Traditional families still have mother and father and homosexual unions with children (that still hurts me to think about), can have their numbered demarkation while still maintaining their all important status as mothers/fathers.
