"Believing Christians should look upon themselves as such a creative minority and ... espouse once again the best of its heritage, thereby being at the service of humankind at large." --Joseph Ratzinger
Years ago when I was a finalist in Nebraska's "Beef, it's What's for Dinner" contest, My Father, Psychiatrist, told me that studies showed Vegans lived as long as meat eaters. Meat eaters died more often from heart disease, but vegans died from suicide.
I had a student once who was a vegan. She was the only non-annoying vegan I've ever met. I'm practically a vegetarian myself, but don't take away my milk, butter, eggs and honey.
I don't remember the name of the black comedian talking about dietary issues like this (lactose intolerance, specifically) in Africa. They don't have these problems over there, he joked, because *hunger* hurts so much worse. He phrased it much better/funnier, but the point was pretty clear.

The ultimate message: Eat meat and be happy!!!

This reminded me of the "fruitarian" in the beautiful film "Notting Hill".
Pity I couldn't find anything on youtube for your enjoyment.

I remember a chap telling me that he was a vegetarian because he couldn't condone violence on animals.
before the end of the evening, he had told me that if he had his way he would exterminate Christians.
This left me thinking about how many animal right activists must be so-called pro-choice. The vast majority, I daresay.
