The more context, the worse it gets. I am sure Obama will think this is unfair too.

Sophia's Favorite said...: There is a tiny grain of truth here. Namely, the only reason the government has a right to taxes is they provide law and order. That is, they create the environment conducive to you doing your business—thus, they get a cut.

It is interesting to note that medieval serfs—who owed their lord a portion of their harvests in exchange for his protection—could not have that portion increased. That is, in essence, they couldn't have their taxes raised (I say in essence because actual medieval taxes were ad hoc measures exacted from everyone except serfs, and functioned more like our bond-issues). Obama is claiming more power over us than a lord would have over serfs.; July 26, 2012 at 3:15 PM
