You Know, Bullets Work Too

Such is the love of contraception by some that they even want it to replace hunting.

Fox News reports:

A suburban New York City village is considering controlling the rising deer population by darting them with a contraceptive.

Hastings-on-Hudson officials say that volunteers will begin gathering preliminary research for the birth control project early next year.

Newsday Westchester reports that the project would keep the animals from reproducing for up to three years. The village expects soon to receive state and federal environmental approval for the plan.
There are some who wish to take away your right to bear arms that's pretty useful when going hunting and invent a new right to contraception.

For some, contraception is the answer to everything.

Antipopulationism meets suburban life. Weird. LOL.

How could it possibly go wrong? Surely it would never have any unintended consequences...

They also probably have people feeding them 'cause they're so cute. That tends to make them drop twins and triplets every year. And makes gardeners like me very pro-hunting.

Immunocontraceptives don't work in free-ranging deer populations. Never have, probably never will for various logistical reasons. Yet again...and again...and again the anti-hunting crowd attempts or proposes it. Like all "liberal" solutions, they keep doing the same thing over and over, expecting a better outcome each time. Western society has gone completely mad, and this is just further evidence of it.

Incorrect. If C'estMoi is correct about free range deer and immunocontraceptives (and I have no reason to doubt him), then the consequences of this will be delicious. What is the preferred method of hunting in y'alls area?

Do the princesses in Hastings-on-Hudson (that sounds so real-estate-huckster-fake) live in CONDOMiniums?

@C'estMoi, they're probably the same people who insist that we should be able to equip police exclusively with tranquilizer guns. This despite the fact humans are very delicate, for animals our size, and yet also have a very variable response to that kind of drug—a dose of tranquilizer big enough to reliably knock out most of the people it's used on is also big enough to kill a big chunk of them. There's a reason anesthesiology is a very high-paid medical specialty, and also a reason most deaths from "surgical complications" have to do with the anesthetic.

Sophia's Fav, I had no idea anyone was talking about equipping police with tranquilizer guns. Yikes! What will they think of next? (I'm not sure I want to know). You're right about the risk of anesthetics. Of course, those risks are present for non-human animals, too, so even tranquilizing wildlife results in the death and injury of many -- unlike what they show on T.V. It's not something to be undertaken casually, and most certainly not something that should be done by the police, either on humans or animals. If the police are going to kill people (or animals, for that matter), I think they should have to use guns rather than anesthetics (or tasers, which seem to be the current craze).

On the NYC suburban deer thing, I wonder if they have already tried the trap-and-transfer solution (which means that the deer will die somewhere else, at least 85% of them in the first year after transfer - if not before transfer due to capture trauma) or if they will try that after the immunocontraceptive project fails. If they haven't tried that already, you can be sure they will suggest that at some point. It's the same drill that's been repeated for years all over the country, and the libs never learn.
