Useless

This just in.

NY has passed an arbitrary feel-good measure that does nothing to curb illegal gun violence and turns thousands of law-abiding citizens into criminals.

So, SNAFU.

ALBANY — New York came one step closer to enacting tougher gun laws on Monday, with the state Senate approving a set of broad changes in a late-night vote and the Assembly expected to act early today.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo unveiled his proposal to bolster the state’s gun laws late Monday after weeks of behind-the-scenes negotiations with legislative leaders, with a full ban on assault weapons slated to take effect as soon as it is passed.

The Senate passed Cuomo’s bill in a 43-18 vote around 11 p.m. Monday. The Assembly is set to take up the legislation when it returns to session at 10 a.m. today.

Cuomo’s bill — named the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act, or NY SAFE — would enact a number of new measures, including a ban of all magazines that hold more than seven rounds and background checks for all gun sales, regardless if they are private sales.
So now if your rifle has pistol grip, a run of the mill feature. You have an assault weapon.

Folding stock? Assault weapon.

Makes no sense or difference except to law abiding citizens.

So stupid. My Glock magazine holds more than 7. Just plain stupid.

I've heard reports that the rifle owned by Adam Lanza's mother wasn't even involved in the shooting--that it had been left behind in his trunk. The whole story about the shooting leaves me a bit confused. Interesting, though, that NY's governor, who is so concerned about the "innocent loss of life," seems equally anxious to make it easier to have an abortion (or, I'm sure he would say, "safer"--at least for Planned Parenthood).

Even if the average gunfight is over in 1.5 rounds, what if you're attacked by more than 4 people? Or you're a bad shot? What, so people whose hands shake due to neurological conditions don't have a right to self-defense?
