Much was made of the Associated Press' decision to cease using the term "illegal immigrants." But another word choice jumped out at me recently in a story that the AP published on the House of Horrors abortionist Kermit Gosnell who allegedly gave birth to babies and then snipped their spine with scissors to kill them. You want to know what the AP calls that act - an "unorthodox abortion."
Thankfully, Philadelphia prosecutors call it what it is -- murder.
Here's the AP lede:
A medical assistant told a jury Tuesday that she snipped the spines of at least 10 babies during unorthodox abortions at a West Philadelphia clinic. And she said Dr. Kermit Gosnell and another employee did the same to terminate pregnancies. To be clear, Gosnell wasn't "terminating pregnancies." He was delivering the children and killing them with scissors.
The thing is, the writer knows the actual facts of the case because many of them are detailed later in the story including one where a baby was killed in the toilet with scissors. But the reporter still chose to simply label them "unorthodox abortions."
