T-Shirt Message

Regarding message t-shirts, usually I either: a) don't notice or b) am annoyed. Frequently, they are badges that the wearer is president of the nerd patrol. But I saw this on someone in the supermarket last night and it got me thinking.
God's own divine life is the energy which transforms us from falleness, from our more beastly tendencies of lust, greed, violence and all the personal and public vices of which we are so aware. And God's presence is the source of that divine life, like electricity is the energy that makes a light bulb radiant according to its own nature. If people do not not ask for this divine life in the sacraments and prayer, why are we surprised that people are unraveling spiritually and acting accordingly? Why are we surprised that people are becoming bearers of darkness instead of light?

But the God in schools thing reminded me of something I saw at Mass last night. When the teen in front of me turned to shake my hand, I saw he had on a t-shirt that had the papal emblem on it with the words (in BIG letters) "One Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church". And as some of us were chatting in the transept afterwards, I saw another young man walk by with a prayer book in hand. Both late teens, both without parents, i.e. they were their by their own choice. So despite our culture's best efforts, the light hasn't been completely driven out of American youth.

1. WHO does not allow God in school? No one is greater than God; no one can forbid Him anything.

2. Attributing a statement to God that has no basis in scripture or the magisterium is just plain wrong.

3. Message tees -- the 1970s are over. Costuming one's self in messages is even more declasse' than the Christmas circular letters of that unfortunate decade.
