101 Tips for a Happier Marriage

I read 101 Tips for a Happier Marriage: Simple Ways for Couples to Grow Closer to God and to Each Other (Ave Maria Press), by Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse and Betsy Kerekes.

I posted something about this on Facebook a while ago but now I'm telling you. It's not a book that works to defend marriage as an institution. It's a book to help you make your marriage happier.

Betsy Kerekes, who runs the "Parenting is Funny" website which I often link to for a chuckle has called it a "tool box for improving your marriage."

Dr. Jennifer Morse of the Ruth Institute was named a Catholic of the Year for 2013 by Our Sunday Visitor. That's a pretty big deal.

I've said this before but I get a lot of books in the mail and only review them for CMR if I have nothing bad to say about them. People work too hard on books to have some stupid blogger criticize them. But 101 Tips was so insightful and helpful that I wanted to share it with you.

I'll admit, the book gave me a lot to think about. My wife and I spoke at length about many of the tips in the book. It offers tips about how not to argue to win, how to handle criticism, and a lot about forgiveness.

Hey, it's about marriage, forgiveness is a must. It's not preachy at all. It's funny, insightful, and relevant to anybody's marriage.

It's one of those books that I find myself picking up over and over again. My wife and I have had many talks about things that were written in this book. And I honestly believe it's made me a better husband. Let's face it, I had nowhere to go but up but this book absolutely helped.

101 Tips for Happier Marriage topics include: adjusting your attitude, dropping grudges, winning is for losers, and handling criticism gracefully.

It's in paperback and it's only 144 pages and for those of you with kids it's all in short snippets so you don't have to spend a large block of time.

So check it out at Ave Maria Press.
