NY Times used an undercover journalist to investigate the abortion industry. In 1871.

Every media outlet has excoriated the Center for Medical Progress for its undercover work into the abortion industry. Howver, in 1871, Augustus St. Clair of the New York Times went undercover for the New York Times to investigate the abortion business.

Oddly enough, he was not arrested along with a woman pretending to be pregnant. That takes 21st century lunacy.

St. Clair wrote in the Times...

Thousands of human beings are thus murdered before they have seen the light of this world, and thousands upon thousands more of adults are irremediably ruined in constitution, health and happiness. So secretly are these crimes committed and so craftily do the perpetrators inveigh their victims, that it is next to impossible to obtain evidence and witnesses.
Whoa.

If only the Times had the guts it did in the 19th century.
