Melania seemed to me like a vampiress from a b-movie last night. I don't even mean to be mean. But that's what I kept thinking.
After watching it I didn't come away feeling like I knew her or Donald Trump any better. And that's really the point of that speech, isn't it? So not only did the speech not accomplish its goal but it actually now deflated any bounce that the first night of the convention might have given Trump.
And that's not Melania's fault. It's because the Trump team got lazy. They cut corners. They didn't want to do the hard work of creating a speech so they cut and pasted Michelle Obama's speech.
Michelle, in 2008,, said,
"... Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don't know them, and even if you don't agree with them...And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them."
Last night, Melania said,
"From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect... They taught and showed me morals in their daily life. That is the lesson that I continue to pass along to our son. And we need to pass those lessons on to many generations to follow because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them."My question is if you're going to plagiarize someone, why plagiarize Michelle Obama?
I mean, there's a treasure trove of great speeches in American history. Yeah, maybe Melania couldn't have pulled off the phrase "Four score and seven years ago..." but there had to some great ones out there that you could've stolen from. Was YouTube the only resource the Trump speechwriters could use?
