Anecdata About the Catholic Vote

I know this isn't data but it drives me crazy. My kids go to a Catholic school. Up until last year I was thrilled with our parish elementary school but unfortunately we were regionalized. I'm still taking a wait and see attitude. But we had parent-teacher conferences today and in one class they had a chart up, talking about which way the kids in second grade were going to vote.

12 for Obama and 5 for Romney.

What? This is a Catholic school! I'm just not getting how a majority of these kids could be coming from Obama supporting families.

And one of my kids said a teacher of theirs announced in class that he was going to vote for Obama. He did, however, invite debate.

I know I'm in the Philly suburbs which leans heavily blue but Obama is attacking religious liberty and is radically pro-abortion and pro-gay "marriage."

I'm just not getting how Obama is getting this kind of support from Catholics.

  1. It looks like the archdiocesan bureaucrats got what they wanted when they regionalized your school. Making the schools less Catholic was one goal of the school closing campaign they launched when they learned a new archbishop threatened their control of the archdiocese. The school can't control the kids' votes but shouldn't do anything, like running mock elections, that would support pro-abortion politicians. Teachers should be Catholic enough not to support pro-abortion politicians, but they're not. They're not even concerned that they'll be criticized for supporting pro-abortion politicians. Obama's saturating Philadelphia television with the claim that Romney is against Roe v. Wade. Support for abortion is central to Obama's campaign. The Democratic platform no longer says abortion should be rare because Obama does not want it to be rare. Still they take a paycheck from the Church and vote against legal protection for the pre-born. Regionalization limits the influence of the pastor over the school. In the old system a teacher who opposed the truths taught by the Church had to avoid an orthodox pastor's attention, because the pastor had complete control. Now no one pastor is in control and employees have layers of insulation between them and the pastors. Archbishop Chaput will have a tough time taking over the diocese. It will be a long difficult battle.

  2. The scary thing is that 2nd graders are the best indication of how their 'catholic' parents will vote. I'll guess you will be checking out Catholic Home schooling now!

  4. I live in a red state and the Catholic schools here seem more interested in placing kids in ivy league schools and competing for the high end private school dollar than producing Catholic kids. I will say though that the younger administrative staff they are hiring is a tremendous improvement on the old guard. Today though, I bet I would see the same results.

  5. I voted for Michael Dukakis when I was in second grade. Mostly because my parents were voting for George Bush. Just sayin'.

  6. Have you EVER read your Bible?

Prior to the civil war and even after every WHITE Christian preacher, behind the KKK, misconstrued quotes in the Bible to CONDONE SLAVERY

    Exodus 21: 20-21

"And if a man smite his SERVANT, or his maid, with a ROD, and he DIE under his hand; he shall be surely PUNISHED. Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his MONEY."

    Exodus 21: 26-27

"And if a MAN smite the EYE of his SERVANT, or the eye of his maid, that it PERISH; he shall let him GO FREE for his eye's sake. And if he smite out his manservant's tooth, or his maidservant's tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth's sake."

    Leviticus 25: 44-46

"Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids. Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye BUY, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your POSSESSION."

    2) The CHURCH justified (and in some cases still do) the OPPRESSION of WOMEN, WHY? Because of the BIBLE!!!

    First Corinthians 14: 34-35

"Let your WOMEN keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to SPEAK; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a SHAME for women to SPEAK in the CHURCH."

    Ephesians 5: 22-24

"Wives, SUBMIT yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the WIVES be to their own HUSBANDS in EVERY THING."

    First Timothy 2: 11-14

"Let the WOMAN LEARN in SILENCE with all SUBJECTION. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was NOT deceived, but the WOMAN being deceived was in the TRANSGRESSION."

PLEASE VOTE FOR ROMNEY!! HE'll UP HOLD THESE VALUES.

  7. Thank you for that reasoned discourse, Adrienne.

Now, then, about leftist Catholic schools: I told you so. The label on the building is irrelevant; the quality of instruction is everything. Further, to fail to vote in local school board elections -- and most people fail -- is to cede the instruction of all children to the left.

  8. I don't know what it means that you were "regionalized." Does that mean that several parish schools were combined into one school?

This is indeed disconcerting. It is hard for me to understand why so many people put political party affiliation ahead of more important considerations, such as abortion and religious liberty. I usually vote Republican, but I would have no hesitation whatsoever about voting for a Democrat if the Democrat were solid on these truly most important issues. (In fact, I have on rare occasions voted for Democrats in local or state elections for that very reason.)

  11. OMG! Does Adrienne live in the dark ages or what? People like her give religious people a bad name.

  12. @Whitney: two things. One, the Dark Ages never happened. They are a slur invented by the "Englightenment" (the era, by the bye, of 99.99% of European witch-hunting). Mention the phrase to any real historian and he'll laugh in your face.

And two, that anonymous comment isn't by Adrienne, it is a false flag trolling by some a-hole. Maybe you should've read the two comments immediately above yours.

  13. @Sophia - want to make a bet that "Whitney" is "anonymous the troll??"

This person has done this to me before at CMR.

  14. To Paul H: Yes that's just what it means. Money is the liberals excuse for the project. When the resulting school has fewer children than the parish schools did, and spends more per child than the parish schools did, then the result is a religious failure and an efficiency failure. Doesn't bother the bureaucrats, though.
