Bishops Oppose ENDA

Its' called the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). Sounds kinda' wonderful, doesn't it? I mean who likes discrimination, right? But it seems that legislation like this can often do the most damage. Ironically in this case, the non-discrimination act could discriminate against Christians.

The three chairmen of U.S. bishops’ committees expressed their opposition to the proposed Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2013 (ENDA) in a letter that was sent to the U.S. Senate.

That letter was signed by Bishop Stephen Blaire of Stockton, California, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development; Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco, chairman of the USCCB Subcommittee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage; and Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the USCCB Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty.

The bishops say that the exemptions for religious organizations are non-existent.
NDA provides no religious liberty protection of any kind for any stakeholder. Thus, for-profit employers, nonprofit employers having no religious affiliation, solely-owned and closely-held businesses, and even some religious employers would be subject to ENDA, even if they have a religious or moral objection to same-sex sexual behavior, or to the provision of fringe benefits to persons based on their having a sexual relationship with their employees outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. In addition, ENDA does not protect the speech or religious convictions of employers and co-workers on matters of sexual ethics and sexual identity.

The bishops also state that ENDA could be used to redefine marriage.
Some courts have already relied on state law prohibiting workplace discrimination on the basis of “sexual orientation” (so called “state-ENDAs”) as part of the basis for creating a state constitutional right to same-sex “marriage.” For example, the highest courts of California, Connecticut, and Iowa, relying in part on the existence of ENDA-like laws in their respective states, have declared that the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman is “discriminatory” or lacks any “rational basis.” Indeed, these rulings reflect a legal strategy that “gay rights” advocates have repeatedly and publicly explained in scholarly articles and other media—first, secure the passage of “sexual orientation” antidiscrimination laws, such as ENDA, and then invoke the principle embedded within those laws as a basis for same-sex “marriage.”

Particularly in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision (United States v. Windsor) which struck down the definition of marriage in the federal Defense of Marriage Act, and which has already triggered numerous additional federal constitutional challenges to the definition of marriage, the virtual certainty that ENDA would be invoked for similar purposes poses an
especially great concern.
The bishops state that ENDA would put the government in charge of who religious schools and institutions could hire and fire.
ENDA would regulate decisions not only over whether to hire or fire, but also over compensation, terms, conditions, and privileges of employment. Therefore, ENDA would likely require an employer to provide health coverage to the employee’s same-sex “spouse,” and other fringe benefits, on the same basis as the employer provides spousal benefits to other legally married employees—even if the employer regarded all or some of these actions as facilitating or cooperating with same-sex sexual relationships contrary to the employer’s religious or moral convictions
This is how it's done. They pass it and then enforce it. Big time. Make no mistake, ENDA puts Catholicism in the crosshairs.

  1. I hope Catholics understand that we are in the beginning stages of a persecution. No Catholic should be voting for these "progressive" laws and politicians who place progressive judges to undermine our faith.
This law, if it passes the firewall in the Republican congress will be another nail in the coffin of the Church - The "TRUE" Cchurch that is. If these laws continue to pass (look at the roots of the antibullying laws) we will have an State instituted church, much like Communist China.

  2. That would be because in the "I want to feel all warm and fuzzy" land of liberals, catch phrases have small print next to them. In this case "I believe in diversity" is followed by "as long as I agree with it" in smaller font.

  3. Catholic Church needs to take back its schools and tend to its business of saving souls, not feeding them to the Devil.

“Speaking the truth in love,” it may be that the acronym ENDA can only mean to “END-AMERICA!” Engagement in anal sex by one man with another man is not a special privilege requiring special protective legislation or positive constitutional sanction. To the contrary, it is an abomination says God's Word in the Holy Bible. And there is more than a mere "rational basis" for affirming marriage between one Man and one Woman: (1) The God-ordained One Man-One Woman Marriage relationship agrees with Science (biological organs of opposite genders are a perfect fit for each other (penis-vagina); homosexuals have similar organs that are unfit, and hence, that impel them to engage in the corrupt practice of anal sex; (2) It agrees with Reproductive Life Sciences (the Male complex of penis, prostate gland and Sperm cell fertilizes the Woman's complex female Ovum, and complements the Woman's other reproductive organs such as the vagina, fallopian tubes, ovaries) and the female ovum. (3) Homosexuals can never reproduce: Sperm does not fertilize feces, which belongs only in the sewers. The anus is designed for excretion of fecal matter. Period! End of story! Thus, homosexuality is the death-knell of Humankind; (4) One Man-One Woman Marriage not only agrees with Biological Sciences and Reproductive Life Sciences, but also follows God's moral commandments of right living, consequences of which, promoting good sense logic, organized order, good health-affirming relationships, all of which, conducive to both mental and physical well-being. It is also morally and practically right in designing constructive life-affirming laws, and protecting the general welfare and well-being of families and children, our Posterity; (5) One Man-One Woman Marriage supports "the image and likeness of God" in Humanity with due respect for the fact that, by necessity, Humankind must prosper-for-life on the Earth and in the Universe as God's most beloved Creation: That of Human Life, worth the very life of His own only begotten Son whose Crucifixion redeemed and saved us, and whose Resurrection empowers us with God's Holy Spirit. Glory to God in the Highest and Praise Jesus our wonderful Lord and mighty Savior!
